“MOTHERLESS DAUGHTER”

I am a motherless daughter…

Born into the arms of hate, jealousy, and confusion

Separated from the love that a child needs, from the owner of the womb that bore her.

I was always alone.  Fighting, screaming, crying out for her to look at me, see me, love me.

I am a motherless daughter…

Fearful of her eyes, her lies and her hateful tongue

Placed in a corner, ignored, beaten by words meant to tame an unruly animal, who’s hungry and just needs nourishment.

I am a motherless daughter…

Trying hard to hide the shame of bearing such title;  unfit to walk among those who live in love, where sunshine resides and hope is a given.

For where I come from, there is no hope .. .just hopelessness … for me, a child born of a mother who despises her being, her breathing, her life.

I am a motherless daughter…

Sunshine knows not where I live, only dark, ugly clouds which follow me around, taunting, jeering, sneering, causing me to yell up to the heavens … “Why, why me?”

I am a motherless daughter…

From the land of motherless daughters, where we are cast, thrown about and left alone for the world to prey upon, for that protection which is expected from a mother’s love, we know not

What a sorry lot…

When you are born a motherless daughter.

Sometimes, I feel like a motherless child…a long, long way from home…

  9. Ahhh Nonnie, so well stated that it made me shiver, brought back memories I’d thought I had tucked away–but that never happens. I gave my own mother a gift before she died. I told her the lie she needed to hear. “Yes, Mom, you were a good mother.” It cost me nothing for she had long since killed the love in my soul for her. I became the mother I yearned for her to be.And she died, needing to believe the lie. This poem really moved me.
